PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND QUALITY DETER-MINATION OF UNDERGROUND WATERS IN KOSHMI INDUSTRIAL AREA OF BETUL CITY, (MP.), INDIA

Abstract

Physico-chemical analysis of underground water was carried out during Feb-2007 at six different sites in Koshmi industrial Area, Betul (M.P.). In the present paper underground water quality in relation to some parameters like Colour, Odour,Taste,Temperature,Total Dissolve Solids (TDS),Total Alkalinity(TA), pH, Calcium Hardness, Magnesium Hardness,Total Hardness (TH), Chlorides, Dissolve Oxygen(D0), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD),and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is presented.The minimum and maximum values of concentrations of the various param-eters are found to be within permissible limit prescribed by WHO. Hence, the quality of the underground water of examined area is not much affected by industries and may be used for drinking and various domestic purposes.
