TOXIC EFFECT OF CHROMIUM CHLORIDE ON MORPHOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR OF CLARIAS BATRACHUS (LINN.)S.D. AhirraoAbstract In the present work effect of chromium chloride on behaviour and morphology of fresh water air breathing fish ciarios botrochus (Linn) have been studied. The experimental and control fish were exposed to sub-lethal concentration of Chromium chloride, i.e. 3 and 6 ppm and observation were made at the interval of 2,4,8 and I 6 days of exposure. Notable changes in behaviour and morphology of experimental fishes as compared to the controlled have been observed. Result showed more frequent surfacing; vigorous, jerky and non-stop swimming. Profuse mucous secretion on entire body surface, dull eyes, and light gray patches on skin were seen. Barbels vibrate in all directions and later degenerate. Movements of operculum and fins were very feeble.
