IMPACT OF EMISSIONS OF CO2 FROM THERMAL POWER PLANTS ON CLIMATE — A CASE STUDY

Abstract

This paper aims at studying the impact of the continuous burning of lignite in the Thermal Power Plants of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited,Tamilnadu Sate, On the climatic conditions in the surrounding regions. Due to the burning of huge quantity of lignite in the thermal power plants of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, huge emissions of CO2 are let into the atmosphere.The impact of the huge and continuous emissions of CO: on the climatic conditions in the areas within 50 km radii around Neyveli is assessed.The increase in average annual temperature and decrease in rainfall in the locations surrounding the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited are an indication of the occurrence of Greenhouse effect
