SOIL AND SEDIMENT CONTAMINATION BY TRACE ELEMENTS AT BODUPPAL CHERU, HYDERABAD, A.P, INDIA.

Abstract

Geo- chemical and geo-environmental studies were carried out at one of the polluted area - Bocluppal. This area is situated in the close vicinity of two highly polluted area called as Nacharam and Mallapur. The main industries such as iron, steel manufacturing industries, cement, plastic, glass, leather manufacturing units, copper and chemical units are indiscrimately dumping their wastes in to the open environment of this area and the pollutants are finally reaching into the lake called as Boduppal cheru, severly polluting this lake. The present work is carried out at Boduppal cheru in order to monitor the soil and sediment contamination by the heavy metals. The overall results clearly reveal that the soil and sediments of the Boduppal cheru is contaminated with the heavy metals.
