IN VITRO PHENOLIC EXUDATION AND TISSUE BROWNING IN ADENOCALYMMA AILICEA MISER AND HIPATAGE MADABLOTA GAERTN.

D. Poornima and G.R. Shivamurthy

Abstract

Growth and morphogenesis of explants/callus can be limited by toxic metabolites during in vitro culture of explants. Polyphenols are released or synthesized during tissue culture of A.allicea Miser, and H. madablota Gaertn. resulted in tissue browning and limited proliferation of callus. Repeated culture of explants in both the taxa, incubation of explants under dark for initial eight days in A. allicea and young tissue culture in H. madablota resulted in controlled exudation of phenolics.
