Abstract

Pollution of Ganga River has been assessed considering the heavy metals in water, soil, benthic macro invertebrates -Thiara lineata and fish - Rita rita, in the studied area. Four heavy metals viz. Copper (Cu), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), and Zinc (Zn) were studied. Lead and cadmium were found above the permissible limit in the molluscan tissue. Physico-chemical parameters of the water were also studied. The overall study reveals that the Ganga River is moderately polluted.
