K.B. Burade, A.R. Chopade and Sadhana Sharma

Abstract

Tannic acid or tannins have wide and extensive applications in industries and various fields of the sciences. In the present study the tannin rich species were selected and evaluated for their tannins content, using Folin Dennis method, which is based on the non-stoichiometric oxidation of the molecules containing a phenolic hydroxyl group. After the statistical and comparative evaluation of the tannin estimates of the various tannin rich species, it was concluded that the Myrobalan and Bahera have high amount of tannin content, which are low in cost and can be used as prime source for tannic acid in industries instead of expensive chemical synthetic analogues, which can be plentifully cultivated in the states of India.
