Abstract

This paper evaluates the usefulness of market and non-market valuation concepts and techniques from the ecological economic perspective.This paper outlines the nature, utility and application of various valuation methods and techniques with a view to study the ecosystem functions and services. Each method has its own mode of application and also evaluation of result partaining to a particular aspect of ecosystem function or service.This paper concludes with some policy measures to improve the performance of valuation studies and their utility with reference to Indian context.
