SARITA SHARMA, AJAY K THAKUR AND DINESH K. SRIVASTAVA

Abstract

The progress of genetic transformation and its extensions from simple microorganisms to higher plants has been a land mark development in biological sciences. Capsicum is an important horticultural crop that can surely benefit from plant biotechnology to improve the characteristics like disease resistance, insect resistance, and abiotic resistance. In Capsicum, Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation has been a technique of choice for transformation even though direct gene transfer have also been reported .The present article gives an insight of success of till date and the future prospects of potential applications of genetic transformation in this commercially important plant species.
