PATHOLOGIC ALTERATIONS IN ENDOCRINE PANCREATIC ISLET CELLS DURING EXPERIMENTAL FLRUOOSISA. SHASHI, NEERAJ SHARMA, MONIKA BHARDWAJ AND NEETIKA SHARMAAbstract The effect of fluoride on endocrine islets of pancreas were studied in Sparague DalArley albino rats. The rats were administered NaF in doses of 30, 45 and 75 mg /kg bw/day for 15 to 36 days. The control group was administrated subcutaneously double distilled water lcc/kg bw daily for the same period. The leucocyte infiltration in islets, pyknotic nuclei, necrosis, uremic alterations and invulsion and infolding of reticular layer of islets was found in islets cells treated with Na1-7 for 15 days. Squamous metaplasia of pancreatic ducts, adenoma of pancreas, hemorragic necrosis, and reduction in number of pancreatic islets was noted in rats treated with NaF for 22 days. Disorganization of islets of Langerhans, presence of vacuolation, were visible, acute pancreatis, lamellated inflammatory cells, islets adenoma, decline in number of islets cells, and exudation was obsreved in rats treated with fluoride for 30 days. In the last phase of experiment, apoptosis of islets, deep infoldings and invulsion ,
