INFLUENCE OF BIO-WALL MATERIAL OF GRAIN STORAGE STRUCTURE IN MAINTAINING, QUALITY OF STORED FOOD GRAIN WITH SPECIAL P-AANCE TO PADDY GRAINS

HIMANGSHU BARMAN

Abstract

Dehusked paddy grains belonging to one stock of Ranjit variety were stored separately in galvanized iron sheet made Metal Bin, mud plastered bamboo wall made 'Bhoral' and paddy straw walled 'Topai/iTomi. Grain quality was indirectly examined periodically by measuring grain moisture content (GMC) and grain temperature (GT) for one year. Although GN1C and CT changes within all these storage structures throughout the year, the construction wall influences differently as physical barrier only through which RH and atmospheric temperature operate. The paddy straw wall of 'Topa/PI-0m' permits a narrow change in GMC that too below safe GMC and, GT that remains relatively cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Under such condition stored paddy grain can be predicted to undergo slow quality deterioration due to physical, chemical and biological activities. Thus, paddy straw in more technical ways can be used as biowall material in constructing food grain storage systems.
