POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE

Abstract

The past few years have seen a profound revolution in biological sciences. The enormous advances in molecular biology are providing novel insights into the etiology and treatment of human diseases. In these few years many advanced technologies have been developed, among these, the PCR is one of the most widely used technology now a days in molecular biology. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is a molecular biological technique for amplifying (creating multiple copies of) DNA without using a living organism, such as E. coil or yeast. PCR is commonly used in medical and biological research labs for a variety of tasks, such as the detection of hereditary diseases, the identification of genetic fingerprints, the diagnosis of infectious diseases, the cloning of genes, and paternity testing. In this article, the basic principles and techniques of the polymerase chain reaction and its significance in the diagnosis of various infective diseases and genetic disorders have been discussed
