EFFECT OF MUTAGENS ON CHLOROPHYLL PIGMENTATION IN TOMATO (LYCOPERSICON ESCLILENTLIM L) CV. PUSA RUBY

P. KARUNAK AR RAO AND C. SUVARTHA

Abstract

Chlorophyll mutations were induced as a result of Gammarays irradiation at 30KR, 40KR, 50KR, 60KR, 70KR and 0.01%, 0.1% of EMS & HZ and 30 KR + EMS, 30KR + HZ for 6hr, 12hr, 18hr and 24 hr. duration in cv. Pusa Ruby of Lycopersicon esculent urn mill. In this study three different types of (Albino, Xantha, Chlorina) chlorophyll mutations were observed in M2 generation. Highest frequency (13.80) of albinos were observed in 0.1% of HZ. Highest frequency (15.66) of xantha were observed in 30 KR + HZ and highest (19.02) chlorina mutations were observed in 0.1 % of 30 KR + HZ. Thus among all the mutagens applied, combination of garnmarays with HZ produced high ftequency of chlorophyll mutations followed by gammarays, with EMS and gammarays alone.
