Abstract

Biobleaching of coil. using tUtAkt-!,i belonging to Basidiomycetes was attempted to recover whiter fibers. The process was faster and more eft icient in degrading lignin and toxic phenolics.Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Ceriporiopsis subverinispora and Pleurot US eryngii were found to efficiently degrade lignin without loss of appreciable amount of cellulose. Synergistic action of these fungi could yield good quality fiber ideal for dyeing.
