LARVICIDAL AND CHEMOSTERILANT ACTIVITY OF THE LEAVES OF SAPIUM INDICLIM WLLLD AGAINST CULEX QUINQUEFASCIATUS SAY

T. DANIEL AND K. LTMNEITHING VAIPHEL

Abstract

The acetone fraction of the petroleum ether extract of the leaves of Sapium indcum Wild exhibited larvicidal and growth inhibiting activity against tie early fourth instar larvae of Culex quinquefasdatus Say. Chemosterilant activity including reduction in blood meal utilization was observed in higher concentrations. Reduction in fecundity, formation of larval-pupal intermediates, formation of pupal-adult intermediates and sterility of the first generation eggs (100%) occurred at lower concentration (5ppm).
