IMPROVING POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS DEGRADATION BY GENOME SHUFFLING

MANOJ KUMAR

Abstract

Pseudomonas sp. DHT, isolated from the oil-contaminated soil, exhibited broad substrate profile for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation but the rate of degradation was slow. Genome shuffling was used to improve the degradation of PA Hs by strain DHT. Mutants obtained after recursive protoplast fusion (genome shuffling) show substantial improvement in ability to degrade representative PAH, dibenzothiophene in liquid media
