Abstract

Effect of effluents of groundnut oil mill on physico-chemical and biological properties of black cotton soil was assessed in the present study. Discharge of groundnut oil mill effluents onto the soil caused changes in physico chemical and biological properties of soil. These changes included drop in pH of the soil from 7.2 to 6.2, water holding capacity from 0.65 - 0.37 and electrical conductivity from 68.1-18.2pMhos/cm in polluted and control soil respectively. There is an increase in clay, organic carbon, total nitrogen and Phosphorus in contaminated soil. Two fold reduced bacterial and fungal population was recorded in Polluted soil in comparison to control soil.
