CHANGES IN THE ACID AND ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE ACTIVITY DURING SUB-LETHAL EXPOSURE OF CYPRINLIS CARPI() AND OR1OCHROMIS MOSSAMBICLIS TO CURACRONRADHAKRISI-INAN NAIRAbstract The toxic impact of curacron on acid and alkaline phosphatase activity of Cyprinus carpi° and Oreochromis mossanzbicus in the tissues of liver, kidney stomach, intestine and muscle were studied for 21 days. The fishes C.carpio and 0. mossambicus were exposed to curacron chronically to different sub-lethal concentrations, 0.0067, 0,0134, 0.0201, 0.0268 ppm and 0.083, 0.167, 0.2518 and 0.3350 ppm respectively by taking 1/5, 1/10, 1 /15 and 1/20 fractions of respective 96hrs LCso values. C. carpio and 0. mossarnbicus were found to decrease the acid and alkaline phosphatase activities with increasing concentrations of curacron. Further among the tissues tested acid and alkaline phosphatase activities were maximum in the liver tissues of both C.carpio and 0.rnossambicus when compared to other tested tissues. Kidney was the most affected tissue among the tested tissues.
