MEDICINAL PLANTS : FUTURE SOURCE OF PESTICIDES

Abstract

After the great achievement of Green revolution, India is now battling the residual effects of the extensively used chemical pesticides in the country's soils. The utilization of pesticides created lot of problems in the food chain and environment. These pesticides are recalcitrant in nature, and persist in the environment and accumulate in the living organisms. To overcome these problems bio-degradable chemicals extracted from plants were started in use as a pesticides. More research is still ahead and required in this direction. Medicinal plants which are now commonly used for extracting medicines can also be source of chemicals to be used for pesticides. In this paper a brief idea has been translocated to see the feasibility and accessibility in this noble direction.
