E. SATHYAPRIYA AND A. YOGA MOORTHI

Abstract

The coastal sand dune plant Spinifex liltoreus (Burm.f.) Merr was screened for its antibacterial property using methanol extract of the plant. 10 human pathogens were selected and tested against the extract after finding out the MIC and MBC levels of each strain. Of the 10 pathogens, Vibrio cholerae was the only pathogen, which was significantly inhibited both by aerial part and root of Spiniftx !Thom's. Further the root showed higher degree of inhibitory effect than the extract of aerial part. The results were tabulated and the photographs showing the inhibitory zone were presented.
