EFFECT OF POLLUTION ON THE LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP OF CERTAIN FRESHWATER TELEOSTS INHABITING RIVER SATLUJTEJINDER KAUR AND P.K. SAXENAAbstract The fishes collected from upstream (US) and downstream (DS) regions of river Satluj revealed that the length-weight relationship in different teleosts studied is highly correlated except in C. latius collected from DS region. The analysis of linearity of regression shows that an increase in length caused a significant increase in weight. A comparison of regression coefficient 'b' indicates that the length - weight relationship did not follow cube law and significant differences have been noticed in the 'b' values of C. latius and M. cavasius collected from DS region. These differences have been attributed to the changes in the ecological conditions in the DS region following confluence of Budha Nallah (BN), a highly polluted tributary of the river Satluj.
