HYPER PRODUCTION OF XYLANASE ENZYME BY MUTANTS OF ASPERGILLUS OCHRACELLSA.RUCKMANI, A.K.VARENDRA AND A.RAJENDRANAbstract Aspergillus Ochraceus (MTCC 1877) was mutated with UV light to increase Xylanase production. The growth conditions were optimised for maximum enzyme production. The mutant strain VRR 80 produced 96 U/ml of xylanase at pH 8.0 on 5th day of incubation when 5% w/v wheat bran was used as a sole carbon source whereas wild type produced 61 U/m1 of xylanase enzyme. The optimal pH and temperature for the enzyme were 5.0 and 50°C respectively. The stability of the enzyme was found to be more than 50% at 60°C and at pH 4.0 to 8.0. The temperature stability of the enzyme was also found to increase in mutant strain.
