Abstract

Present study reveals the existence of three species under genus Salmostoma of family Cyprinidae from thestudy area. These three species are very closely related and sometime confusing to the fishers as well asfishery researchers. Main objective of the present study is the identification of these three speciessystematically to separate them through morphometric analysis of characters in comparison to each other.During study it has been observed that the distinguishing features of body colour, shape of lateral line andshape of face as well as the long silvery stripe on lateral side of the S. phulois the feature to separate thesethree closely related species.
