AN ANALYSIS OF POTENTIALITY AND PROFITABILITY OF THESERICULTURE FARMERS FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODGENERATION IN THE KAMRUP DISTRICT OF ASSAM, INDIAPulak Rabha, Lohit Ch. Dutta and Monimala SaikiaAbstract A study was conducted during 2019-20 in the Kamrup district of Assam to know the potentiality andprofitability of sericulture for sustainable livelihood generation. A total of 20 numbers of respondents wereselected randomly from each village and 40 numbers in each block. Total 120 respondents were selectedfrom the 3 development blocks. Personal interview method using standardized structured interview schedulewas used for primary data collection. Analysis of data was done by using frequency and percentage. Theresults from the study depicted that majority (37.20%) of the respondentâs opted âinsurance schemeâ as ameasure for potentiality and âby-product utilizationâ (20.83%) as a measure for profitability of sericulturefor sustainable livelihood generation. Majority (60.83%) of the farmersâ opted âcocoon + silk yarnâ as theirmost profitable sericulture based perception. |
