PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS AGAINST CIGARETTE SMOKE INDUCED CHANGES IN LUNG TISSUE OF RAT

Abstract

Present study has been carried out on protective effect of Omega-3 fatty acids against cigarette smoke induced changes in lung tissue of male albino rat. Rats were exposed to cigarette smoke via inhalation from cigarette for 1hr/day for four weeks, showed measurable changes in lung tissue are emphysema, pulmonary edema, capillary permeability and thickness of epithelium. After supplementation of Omega-3 fatty acids, all of such histopathological alterations have been mitigated in comparison to cigarette smoke exposed rats.
