WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF RIVER KUWANO, BASTI(U.P.), USING WQI AND POLLUTION INDICES

Abstract

The samples were analysed for physico-chemical and microbiological quality in order to ascertain thequality of river water for public use. There are several ways to access the suitability of water for drinking,irrigation and industrial use. The Water quality Index (WQI) along with Organic Pollution Index (OPI) andComprehensive Pollution Index(CPI) provide a complete picture of water quality in term of index number.In the study WQI, OPI and CPI was determined on the basis of several physico-chemical parameters i.e.,pH, TDS, EC, DO, BOD, COD, Total Hardness, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate, Ca, Mg, Fe, E. coli,Fecal Coliform and Total Coliform.
