PRICE SPREAD AND MARKETING EFFICIENCYIN MARKETINGOF BAMBOO SHOOTS IN DIMAPUR DISTRICT OF NAGALAND

Abstract

Bamboo shoots are considered a delicacy in Nagaland and are eaten regularly round the year. Astudy was undertaken to determine the production and marketing of bamboo shoots in Dimapur district ofNagaland. In the study area, two marketing channels were identified for the marketing of bamboo shootsviz; Producer - Consumer (Channel - I) and Producer - Commission Agent - Consumer (Channel - II). TheMarketing efficiency and Producer’s share in consumer’s price was found to be higher on Channel - I. Themost prominent problem in production and marketing of Bamboo shoots viz; inadequate transportationfacilities, absence of extraction road, non-availability of credit facilities in time, and lack of modern technologyand equipmentfor processing bamboo shoots.
