Abstract

Green chemistry emphasizes the importance of developing unique, eco-friendly solutions to protect humanhealth and ecosystems. In order to examine this concept for minimizing industrial waste and lessening theenvironmental impact of hazardous chemicals, new greener procedures for heavy metal extraction fromindustrial waste must be implemented. Because of their low cost and ease of synthesis, plant based resinsare increasingly being used in the treatment of water resources in accordance with the goals and objectivesof green chemistry. To remediate harmful industrial effluents, cross linked Bajra Epoxy TryptophanHydroxamate (BE-TH) resin were produced in the current study. The FT-IR spectroscopy and Scanningelectron microscopy were used to determine the BE-TH resin’s characterization. The uptake of metal ionsby the BE-TH resin was studied by batch equilibrium experiment. The adsorption of different metal ionssuch as Cd(II), Zn(II) and Fe(II) take place successfully on the BE-TH resin. The maximum percentageremoval Cd (II) and Zn (II) occurred at the pH range of 7-7.5. The results have established good potentialityfor the BE-TH resin to be used as an adsorbent for the removal of toxic metals from industrial waste water.
