DIETARY ADMINISTRATION OF PROBIOTICS ON GROWTH AND BIOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF FRESH WATER FISH, CATLA CATLA (HAMILTON)

G. Chitra

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the impact of feeding probiotics on the growth performance and biochemical composition of Catla catla. The fish were fed with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 g of commercial probiotics (RefloraTM) supplemented diets for 60 days. The growth performance and nutrient utilization including of C. catla including weight gain, protein efficiency ratio and protein productive value were significantly (P<0.05) higher in the treatment receiving probiotic than the control diet. Muscle protein, carbohydrate, fat, ash and gross energy contents were significantly (P<0.05) increased in the experimental fishes compared to those of the control diet. Among the different treatments, 1.5 g probiotic incorporation performed better results than other treatments.
