EVALUATION OF SUGARCANE GENOTYPES FOR RESISTANCE TO WHIP SMUT CAUSED BY USTILAGO SCITAMINEA SYDOWS.V. Nalawade, D.V. Indi , R.A. Pandhare and S.M. PawarAbstract Thirty one sugarcane genotypes along with six checks were tested against whip smut disease under artificial inoculation conditions in the field during three consecutive Suru seasons from 2006-07 to 2008- 09. Out of 31 genotypes screened for their resistance to sugarcane smut caused by Ustilago scitaminea Sydow, only one genotype, i.e., CoM 0265 from Midlate group showed resistant reaction to smut, 11 genotypes viz., Co 0302, Co 0308, Co 0315, CoM 9903, CoVc 9982, Co 0211, Co 0213, Co 0218, Co 0311, Co 0317 and CoM 0325 were found to be moderately resistant. The remaining genotypes fell in moderately susceptible to highly susceptible category.
