Doulat Ram

Abstract

Heavy metals discharged from effluents, constitute a major source of water pollution (Stoychve et al., 2002). These heavy metals include Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Cr, Mo and Ni (Langille and Machean, 1976). Some of these are toxic at very low concentrations. Certain plants have the ability to accumulate heavy metals. Water contamination with heavy metals is a very serious problem in the world. Toxic chemicals are present in ponds, ditches and rivers and affect the life of aquatic organisms (Rai et al., 2002).
