A. Sayadi, Z. Shabani and M.H. Sayadi

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the equivalent sound level in the different areas of Anar city in Iran. This study was performed in 2011 and equivalent sound level were measured using TES-1353H Integrating Sound Level Meter. Anar city based on the density of the roads and traffic issue was divided into 2 areas viz. western area and eastern area. The 29 stations were selected on the main roads, intersections, and squares. The result of the study revealed that the equivalent sound levels in all stations are more than the limit recommended for residential area and commercial area. It is interesting to note that the noise pollution is more pronounced in the western area where the highway is located. Suggesting shift the highway far from the city and applying the sound barriers, green walls, and green spaces would be recommended to reduce the noise pollution. Also the pattern of the city such as location of commercial area, residential area and roads play a significant role in noise pollution.
