Abstract

During a survey near Navi Mumbai a very rare species of green algae characiosiphon rivularis Iyengar was found in freshwater stream beside a light house in CBD Belapur. This is the second incidence in India after 1936 when M.O.P. Iyengar first discovered characiosiphon. It was later found in China in 1976 by Chian Cheng-Yu, Hu Hsian-Yuan from Department of Botany, University of Yunnan, China.
