SIZE AND ACTIVITY-TIME COMPARISON OF CALOTES VERSICOLOR FOUND IN CONTINENT INDIA AND SIKKIM HIMALAYAS

Aranya Jha and Ajeya Jha

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine if the Calotes versicolor found in continental India differs in size and their preference for being active during dawn/dusk or noon. From the result and discussion we find that despite belonging to same species they indeed differ. The C. versicolor of Sikkim Himalayas is distinctly smaller than ones found in the continental India -perhaps due to differing evolutionary circumstances. We also find that they differ significantly in their inclination to be active at dawn/dusk and noon.
