ASSESSING THE EFFECTS OF BAGHDAD – HOSPITAL DISCHARGE ON THE QUALITY OF TIGRIS RIVER IN BAGHDAD PROVINCE BY CANADIAN WATER QUALITY INDEX (CCMI- WQI)

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of Baghdad- hospital effluent at Baghdad city on the physical – chemical and levels of trace elements (Pd, Zn, Cd, Ni) of Tigris River by using Canadian Water Quality Index (CCME WQI). The result of this study conducted that there was a significant impact of Baghdad hospital discharged water on increase of pH values as well as EC, DO, turbidity and Ca+, Mg+ values with decreasing in level of Cl depending on the organic loaded of water discharged these were reached to the River. On other hands the results showed that the concentration of cadmium, nitrate, phosphate were observed higher than the prescribed limit of WHO. The (CCME WQI) model classified waters of Tigris River as poor drinking and aquatic life.
