Abstract

It is a current need for the production of ecofriendly alternative energy due to the energy crisis and the fossil fuel effects. The lipolytic actinomycetes were isolated from the marine sediment samples and used for the predigestion of plant feedstock by individual species and mixed consortium. The sample was codigested with cowdung for 30 days Hydraulic Retention Time [HRT] and the biogas generation was analysed. The plant samples pretreated with lipolytic microbes showed more biogas generation than control. The marine isolates were identified as Streptomyces indiaensis ACT 7 and Streptomyces hygroscopicus ACT 14 by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The highest biogas generation was observed in the plants treated with mixed consortium followed by S. indiaensis ACT 7 and S. hygroscopicus ACT 14.
