Abstract

Detailed drainage morphometry of any watershed can be revealed with the help of Geographical Information System (GIS). The present work was undertaken using Geomedia Professional version 6 to study the drainage morphometry of Hatti river basin. Toposheets were scanned and digitsed to study different parameters like drainage density, basin magnitude, ruggedness number, first order channel frequency and peak flood. In this region, monsoon rainfall varies from 50 to 2000 mm and the discharge along the stretch of Hatti river varies from 38.902 cumec to 2516.681 cumec. From the discharge data of each sub-watershed, morphometric analysis was done. In addition to this, GIS information has been used to visualize flood vulnerable zone of the whole river stretch.
